Students participating in the annual Mathematics Competition and the top performers in the Common Entrance Examination were rewarded for their achievements.

The Parliamentary Representative for Castries East, Hon. Philip J. Pierre, last Saturday hosted the Annual Mathematics Competition and Honoring Ceremony at the Entrepot Human Resource Centre.

The competition was held under the theme: “The Children Are Our Future.”

A total of eight students representing the three primary schools in the Castries east constituency took part in the competition. All eight participants received a backpack containing back to school supplies for their participation.

In addressing the students, Parliamentary Representative and Deputy Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre told the students that they must take personal responsibility for their actions and use the opportunity of the education given to them. He further alluded that poverty can be alleviated by making good use of the educational opportunities that they are provided with. Making good use of other initiatives like the government funded lap top computers and bursaries would help prepare them for the future and improvement in the quality of life. The Parliamentary representative told the students to always make the right choices, get their priorities right and focus on the positive in their journey through life.

The competition was won by Sandy Wilfred, a student of the Marchand Combined School, who also received a brand new laptop and a trophy. Dasha Eugene came in second, and received a cash prize and trophy while third place was won by Kiyasher DeCoteau, who also received a cash prize and trophy.

Additionally, the top Common Entrance students from the three primary schools in the constituency—Marchand Combined, Ti Rocher Combined and Bocage Combined—were each presented with a tablet, as recognition for their hard work and achievement.
