In celebration of its 10th anniversary, the Jon Odlum Secondary School hosted an open house.
The open house allowed the public to tour the school and to gain a better understanding of the programs offered.
Principal of the Jon Odlum Secondary School, Irene Dujon, highlighted the importance of the initiative.
“We do a lot here. The public seems not to know how much we do. Some persons seem to suggest that the students who come here cannot do anything, so we really wanted to provide the opportunity for the public to understand how much we do here, and how unique our approach to teaching and learning is. As a matter of fact, I would like to stress that the Jon Odlum Secondary School offers steel pan and as a timetable subject. We played at Capell and also at the Marigot Jazz Fusion.”
Visual Arts Coordinator at the Jon Odlum Secondary School, Alwyn St. Omer, believes that artistic talent is important as it is used in all aspects of life.
“We try to be versatile with the arts because a lot of students may not be interested in just painting and drawing, so we try to incorporate different aspects of art like collages, weaving and fabric design, where the children are better with their hands. I think it is a good art program and I like the fact that there is an awareness for it right now.”
The open house highlighted subject areas such as clothing and textile, visual arts, bartending and more.
