The seminar encouraged the development of new entrants and entrepreneurs, and more efficient services.

A two-day Internet Exchange Point (IXP) Stakeholder’s Workshop held last week, has been dubbed a success.

The workshop was organized by the Caribbean Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (CARCIP) in collaboration with the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL). It is part of a series of activities under the CARCIP project aimed at the continued growth of the ICT industry in Saint Lucia.

The seminar aimed to encourage local content providers to connect at an Internet Exchange Point (IXP), that would allow them to deliver content such as live streaming, government and other locally hosted services more efficiently to their audience, and encourage the development of local content by new entrants and entrepreneurs.

A similar exercise was conducted in Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Through CARCIP, the governments of these three countries have been working toward harmonizing the development and improvement of their Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sectors.

The Saint Lucia Internet Exchange Point (SLiX), was launched on Feb. 28, and has been recording a steady increase in locally routed traffic.

An Internet Exchange Point improves the efficiency of the Internet by creating shorter paths for information to flow.
