On January 23 Celebrity Cruise Lines’ Celebrity Beyond birthed at port Castries. Captain of the ship Captain Kate McCue, expressed excitement and appreciation upon her return to Saint Lucia.

"I am the captain of the beautiful Celebrity Beyond. This is our inaugural call to Saint Lucia and I'm thrilled to be back. The last time I was here, was six years ago on Celebrity Equinox, but bringing one of our newer ships to this beautiful port is something we all look forward to. We're honored to have a plaque and key exchange with the lovely people of Saint Lucia."

Tourism Officer at the Ministry of Tourism, Ms. Deepa Girdari, extended a warm welcome to the captain and crew.

“Our tourism product has evolved and now offers more experiences for visitors. We hope you encourage your guests to explore and enjoy what our beautiful island has to offer,” she said, adding: “It is inspiring for our young women out there who are considering careers at sea [to see your example].”

Ms. Geena McPhee, Public Relations Officer at the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA), extended an informal invitation to the female captain to engage with the young women of SLASPA during one of her future visits.

"Captain Kate, your story is truly inspiring. Having a woman lead such a massive vessel is empowering. Your journey is remarkable and we're thrilled to have Celebrity Cruise Lines back in our lovely port. Welcome, and we look forward to your return."

The vessel’s captain and crew later exchanged plaques and gifts with representatives from Saint Lucia.
