Saint Lucia records 16 new cases of COVID-19

THE NUMBER OF ACTIVE CASES IS NOW 98.

Today Thursday April 29, 2021 the Ministry of Health and Wellness received confirmation from the Ezra Long Laboratory of 16 new cases of COVID-19. This is from a batch of 188 samples taken on April 26, 2021 and April 27, 2021. These samples were processed on April 28, 2021.

The sixteen individuals were seen and assessed at various community respiratory clinics where they were each tested for COVID-19. In-keeping with the national COVID-19 testing protocol, they were placed in home quarantine by healthcare practitioners while awaiting receipt of their COVID-19 test results. The Ministry of Health has since made arrangements to place these newly diagnosed individuals in isolation. The health team is currently undertaking contact tracing for these new cases.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 7 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 bringing the total number of active cases in country to date to 98. Presently, all of the active cases are doing well. The new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 4534.

As of April 28, 2021 a total of 24, 230 individuals have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 1,602 individuals have received the second dose.

We are now in Phase Two of the COVID-19 vaccine campaign and also administering the second dose of the COVID-19. Tomorrow Friday, April 30, 2021 the health team will be administering the COVID-19 vaccine at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds, Vigie Sports Complex, Babonneau Multi-Purpose Centre, Laborie Wellness Centre, Choiseul Fisheries Complex, Micoud Multi-Purpose Centre, Jacmel Wellness Centre and the Daren Sammy Cricket Grounds. The Ministry of Health reminds the public of the importance of practicing the infection prevention and control measures that will help to minimize the spread of COVID-19:

  • -  Wash your hands frequently using soap and flowing water

  • -  Wear a mask in public places and ensure it covers the mouth, chin and nose

  • -  Maintain a physical distance from others

  • -  Use a bleach solution to sanitize frequently touched surfaces and frequently handled objects - Avoid contact with other people who have flu-like symptoms
    - If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, keep away from others and seek medical care
