Saint Lucia records 14 new cases of COVID-19

THE TOTAL NUMBER OF ACTIVE CASES IS 140.

Today Tuesday July 13, 2021 the Ministry of Health and Wellness received confirmation of 14 new cases of COVID-19 from the Ezra Long Laboratory.

These results are from a batch of 225 samples taken during the period July 9, 2021 to July 12, 2021. These samples were processed on July 12, 2021. These individuals were seen at various respiratory clinics in communities where they were assessed and tested for COVID-19. In-keeping with the national COVID-19 testing protocol, they were each placed in home quarantine by healthcare practitioners awaiting receipt of their test results. Arrangements have been made to place these new cases in isolation. The contact tracing for these individuals is underway.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 4 individuals bringing the total number of active cases in country to date to 140. Presently, three of the active cases are requiring critical care at the Respiratory Hospital. The new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 5430.

As of July 12, 2021 a total of 31, 340 people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 22, 653 individuals have received the second dose of the vaccine. Tomorrow Wednesday, July 14, 2021 the health team will be administering the COVID-19 vaccine at the Dennery Mothers’ Pre-School and the Vigie Sports Complex. Unvaccinated adults are encouraged to get vaccinated to protect themselves, family, friends and others from the COVID-19 virus. 

The Ministry of Health reminds the public that we are still managing the COVID-19 pandemic; therefore it is important that people adhere to public health measures. We appeal to everyone to prioritize their health and safety at this time and to take all the necessary measures and behaviors to reduce the spread of this disease.

Every citizen is asked to remain vigilant as the risk of the introduction of COVID-19 variants remains high. Let us all adhere to the protocols that are put in place to protect us from COVID-19 infection. These include frequent hand washing, use of a face mask in public places covering the nose, mouth and chin, avoiding crowds and mass crowd activities, sanitizing frequently touched surfaces and keeping away from people if experiencing respiratory symptoms and seeking medical care immediately.
